Glenn Martens Spring/Summer 2013

For his second collection 'Beauty Will Remain' Glenn Martens got inspiration from the transformation process and the effects time has on life. By dissecting and peeling away the obvious representations of an object the discovery of layers of hidden beauty is possible. For spring/summer 2013 Glenn Martens introduces stunningly magical and eerie placement prints created from his collaboration with UK photographer Toby de Silva’s series entitled "IMMORTALS". This in depth study of embellished relics of martyred Roman Saints Alexander, Maximinus and Victorius intrigues the mind and the eye. Skillfully reinterpreting this fascinating photographic work, Martens proposes long evening gowns and flowing zipped tops with graphic bejeweled skull prints creating an equilibrium of the macabre and the magnificent. A perfect mixture of futuristic atheltic style and elegance, miniskirts in duchess satin and transparent silk chiffon blouses artfully structured by symmetric cuts. Details such as the sporty zippers or the oversized "jean jacket" trench coats and as for the previous collection, Martens experiments with unexpected materials in innovative sweatshirts, tops and skirts made from bronze-colored recycled plastic. The "Beauty Will Remain" collection upholds the Glenn Martens codes and principles of functional, highly structured tailoring with an easy street sporty vibe characterized by sophisticated yet very wearable silhouettes.
