The WYE is Berlin's new international art house that will celebrate it's grand opening on September 15, 2012. It's located in the historic Skalitzer Post building, spanning 20,000 sq ft of it. The WYE grew from the need for a hub in Berlin for professional creatives and became all the more pertinent recently when Berlin's notorious art houses begant to close one by one. It was established in just 5 months - without a penny of public funding - by volunteers. The WYE secures affordable studios and offices for professional artists, musicians, designers, creative businesses and art focused organizations. It'll also support cultural programming including exhibitions, performances and events. On Saturday the doors will open at 8pm for exhibitions, open studios and performances and the celebration will start at 10pm.
