"The Avantgarde Diaries" is a worldwide festival-tour, curated by Raf Simons for Mercedes-Benz, where design, art, music and fashion merge in an avant-garde way. During a three-day festival in Berlin Raf together with selected artists presented their individual perception of Avantgarde. The Avant/Garde Diaries is a digital portrait magazine that documents personal views on the avant-garde. Rather than labeling people avant-garde, they try to see through the eyes of people, who they admire for what they do. For each article they ask contributors from the creative field to introduce someone or something they consider to be ahead of time and explain why. The result will be a compendium of various, very personal perspectives that disclose new ways of thinking and spread inspiration. For the event they followed the same idea as their digital interview magazine. In this case they asked Raf Simons: Who or what do you consider ahead of time or in other words avant-garde? And the result was that eleven artists under the curation of Raf Simons presented their take on today's and tomorrow's world - a mix of inspiring people and pioneers. Highlights of the Berlin event were the dance performance of the Michael Clark Company and also Goose, These New Puritans and Fischerspooner.
